US Study: Walnuts Major Source of Vitamin B6
Washington, September 24 (QNA) - Walnuts contain some of the most important vitamins and minerals needed by the body, making it one of the most beneficial types of food for human health. Walnuts are a major source of vitamin B6, in addition to iron, calcium and zinc, and contain fatty acids and proteins important to the body.
According to US nutritionist Mandy Enright, eating one ounce of walnuts provides 8 % of the daily fiber requirement. Walnuts can benefit heart health, being a good source of omega-3, and has a positive effect on bowel movement and prevent exposure to constipation and hemorrhoids, and being rich in fiber, it reduces the risk of colon cancer. With healthy fats and fiber, it helps boost satiety and slows glucose absorption in the blood, reducing calorie intake and thus contributing to weight loss.
Eating a small amount of walnuts a day also contributed to providing the body with the high doses of minerals required to resist osteoporosis, as it contains a percentage of copper that enhances bone density. With antioxidant polyphenols, walnuts protect against certain diseases and reduce inflammation. (QNA)
