Washington, September 23 (QNA) - Apple announced that it has postponed the launch of advanced OLED screen technology in iPhones for several years, previously expected to be used on the company's 20th anniversary phone.

The new technology is called Color Filter on Encapsulation (CoE) OLED; a key feature of it is eliminating the polarizing layer found in traditional OLED displays.

The polarizing layer usually helps prevent blur or unwanted reflections on the screen, but dispensing with it can provide a range of advantages related to screen quality, power consumption, and device thickness.

According to the latest report by UBI Research, Apple will not begin using this technology until late 2029, when it plans to add it to the iPhone Pro.

This comes despite the fact that Samsung has already begun using a version of CoE technology in the Galaxy Z Fold3 phone, which launched in 2021.

UBI research did not explain why Apple waited about eight years before adopting the technology, but a report published by ET News provided some possible explanations for the delay.

According to the report, until recently, Apple did not see that CoE technology had reached a sufficient level of maturity to allow it to be widely used in iPhones.

Apple is expected to move to CoE OLED displays once the technology becomes practical enough for widespread use, given the multiple advantages it provides, from display quality to cost. (QNA)
