Dollar Steady Ahead of US Midterm Elections
Singapore, November 02 (QNA) - The US dollar was broadly steady against major currencies on Monday as investors looked ahead to this week's US midterm elections.
The euro hovered near a 17-month low at $1.1159 in early Asian trading, under pressure after Fitch revised its outlook on France to "negative" from "stable" following Friday's market close.
Sterling was little changed at $1.3387, while the US dollar index, which measures the greenback against a basket of six major currencies, held steady at 101.94.
Elsewhere, the yen weakened 0.15% to 157.78 per dollar, while the Australian dollar was little changed at $0.7033 ahead of the Reserve Bank of Australia's monetary policy decision later in the day. The central bank is widely expected to raise its cash rate to 4.85%, its highest level in nearly two decades.
The New Zealand dollar slipped 0.11% to $0.5625, extending its losses after falling 1.2% last week following the Reserve Bank of New Zealand's surprise decision to leave interest rates unchanged. (QNA)
