7.4-Magnitude Earthquake Hits Indonesia's Maluku Islands
Jakarta, April 02 (QNA) - A magnitude 7.4 earthquake struck this morning near Ternate Island in Indonesia’s Maluku Islands, according to the US Geological Survey.
The earthquake occurred at 05:48 a.m. local time (22:48 GMT on Wednesday), approximately 127 kilometers west of Ternate, at a depth of about 35 kilometers.
Authorities issued a tsunami warning for islands surrounding the Molucca Sea, which was later lifted.
Indonesia lies within an active tectonic zone known as the Pacific “Ring of Fire,” which experiences intense seismic and volcanic activity. (QNA)
