Kenyan Ebola Cases Rise to 8
Nairobi, October 19 (QNA) - Health authorities in Kenya announced that the number of Ebola cases in the country has risen to 8 people.
Director General for Health in Kenya Patrick Amoth confirmed in a press statement that another case of Ebola had been recorded, bringing the total number to eight.
According to Amoth, 38 people were tested, and one of them tested positive for Ebola. He added that the person showed symptoms of fever, headache, and muscle pain, and suggested that they were exposed to the virus through contact with the first case of Ebola in Kenya.
Earlier this month, Kenya's first case of the Bundibugyo strain of the virus, a highly contagious strain, was confirmed. The patient, who later died, contracted the disease in Congo and then traveled by land to neighboring Uganda and from there by air to Kenya.
Kenyan health authorities are working to track down all the people the patient came into contact with during their journey. The current outbreak is particularly difficult to contain, as there is still no specific vaccine or treatment for the Bundibugyo strain. (QNA)
