Rio 2016: Qatar's Mission Celebrate Barshim's Silver Medal
Rio de Janeiro, August 18 (QNA) - Qatar's Olympic mission, in the presence of HE Qatar Olympic Committee (QOC) President Sheikh Joaan bin Hamad Al-Thani, celebrated the historic achievement of Mutaz Barshim who won a silver medal in high jump.
The Qatari mission lived an atmosphere of joy and happiness and received many congratulations on the huge milestone. Barshim took the Olympic podium and was crowned with the silver medal before greeting all the members of the Qatari mission and interacted with the Brazilian crowds who have supported him all along during the competition.
Dahlan Al Hamad, vice president of the International Association of Athletics Federations (IAAF) and president of the Asian Athletics Association, crowned Barshim with the silver medal, Canada's Derek Drouin with the gold medal, and Ukraine's Bohdan Bondarenko with the bronze medal.
Barshim dedicated his medal to HE Sheikh Joaan bin Hamad Al-Thani, expressing his gratitude for the support he received throughout his sports career in general and ahead of the Olympics in particular. (QNA)
