Islamabad, September 16 (QNA) - A moderate earthquake measuring 4.8 on the Richter scale struck parts of Punjab province in Pakistan on Monday, according to local meteorological authorities.

The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) reported that the epicenter of the quake was located in southeastern Pakistan. So far, no casualties or damage have been reported.

This tremor follows a 5.4 magnitude earthquake that jolted Islamabad and northern regions of the country earlier this month, on September 2.

Earthquakes are relatively common in Pakistan, as the country lies along the seismic boundary between the Indian and Eurasian tectonic plates.

One of the deadliest earthquakes in the country's history occurred in 2005, when a 7.6 magnitude quake claimed the lives of thousands of people, highlighting Pakistan's vulnerability to seismic activity. (QNA)
