The International Coalition Thwarts Drone Attack in Iraq
Baghdad, August 14 (QNA) - The Counter-Terrorism Service in Iraq's Kurdistan Region announced today that forces of the US-led international coalition against ISIS had thwarted attacks involving explosive-laden drones over the northern Iraqi city of Erbil.
In a statement, the Counter-Terrorism Service said coalition forces shot down three explosive-laden drones, with no casualties reported.
Earlier today, an Iraqi security source said air defense systems had intercepted several drones over Erbil, causing debris to fall near a residential complex in the vicinity of Erbil International Airport.
The source said the incident caused no casualties, although one vehicle sustained material damage from falling debris. Security authorities are continuing their investigation to determine the origin of the drones and the party responsible for launching them.
Earlier this week, Iraqi authorities announced that they had dismantled a network preparing to carry out a drone attack and arrested its members before the plot could be executed. (QNA)
