China Urges US to Uphold One-China Principle
Beijing, October 13 (QNA) - China has urged the United States to adhere to the One-China principle and the three China-US joint communiques, calling on Washington to handle the Taiwan question prudently and take concrete steps to safeguard bilateral relations and regional peace and stability.
Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Mao Ning made the remarks at a regular press conference on Monday in response to a US State Department statement describing China's maritime activities off Taiwan's east coast as "deeply destabilizing."
Mao said China had repeatedly made its position clear, arguing that its exclusive economic zone and continental shelf extended into waters east of Taiwan and that its activities there fell within its sovereign rights and jurisdiction.
"The party that instigates troubles and disrupts stability in this part of waters has never been the Chinese side," she said.
Mao reiterated Beijing's position that Taiwan is an internal matter for China and should not be subject to external interference. She called on Washington to handle the issue prudently and take concrete action to protect bilateral ties and regional stability. (QNA)
