Death Toll from Venezuela Quakes Rises to 4,490
Caracas, July 13 (QNA) - Venezuelan authorities announced that the death toll from the two earthquakes that struck the country on June 24 has risen to 4,490.
Venezuelan National Assembly President Jorge Rodriguez said via Telegram that the number of injured has exceeded 16,740, while rescue teams had pulled 6,462 survivors from the rubble as of Saturday.
The previous death toll, announced on Saturday, was 4,333.
Search and rescue operations are continuing with the participation of 31,837 emergency personnel, more than 30,000 volunteers, and 2,422 international rescue workers engaged in clearing the debris and assisting those affected.
The twin earthquakes, one measuring 7.2 and 7.5 in magnitude, struck 39 seconds apart, with northern Venezuela bearing the brunt of the devastation.
Caracas authorities have reported thousands of people missing after the collapse of entire high-rise residential buildings, many of which were reduced to rubble within seconds. (QNA)
