Study: Sugarcane Extract May Boost Heart Health
Canberra, August 12 (QNA) - A study from Monash University in Australia found that polyphenol-rich sugarcane extract may improve blood lipid levels, reducing triglycerides and VLDL, while also positively affecting gut bacteria.
Researchers stressed that the early findings do not mean it can replace cholesterol-lowering medications and that more research is needed to confirm its long-term benefits.
The study advances research on plant compounds, particularly polyphenols, and their potential role in regulating lipid metabolism and supporting cardiovascular health.
The sugarcane extract used in such studies is neither white sugar nor conventional sugarcane juice. Rather, it is a highly concentrated substance extracted through complex biochemical processes from parts of the plant and its by-products, such as molasses. The sugars were completely removed during the process, leaving only the active plant compounds. (QNA)
