NATO to Reduce Kosovo Peacekeeping Force
Brussels, June 12 (QNA) - NATO announced Friday plans to gradually reduce troop levels in its Kosovo peacekeeping mission this year, citing improved security conditions.
Supreme Allied Commander Europe Alexus Grynkewich said current conditions provide an opportunity to optimize the size and deployment of the KFOR mission.
NATO said the reduction will be carried out carefully and progressively based on developments on the ground, stressing that the decision can be reversed if circumstances require.
KFOR, which currently includes about 4,600 troops, has been deployed in Kosovo since the end of the 1998–1999 conflict. (QNA)
