Doha, May 11 (QNA) - Qatar Sports for All Federation (QSFA) announced the launch of the 2026 Open Chess Championship in cooperation with Qatar Chess Association, with competitions scheduled for next Friday and Saturday at the federation's training center in Doha.

The tournament will bring together men, women, and youth players aged 12 and above in a rapid chess format, as Qatar continues to expand participation in mind sports and community-based competition.

QSFA's Executive Director Abdullah Al Dosari said this edition of the chess championships aims to attract more participants, as seen in previous successful editions that reflected the growing popularity of chess as a mental sport that enhances concentration skills.

He added that family attendance represents an important addition to the tournament because it creates a unique interactive and community atmosphere, and this further strengthens chess's position as a sport loved by all age groups.

Al Dosari also praised the federation's cooperation with the Qatar Chess Association through the organization of successful and distinguished tournaments both technically and organizationally, stressing that such events contribute to spreading the game and expanding its player base across society.
