Brussels, September 01 (QNA) - Eurostat said annual inflation in the eurozone rose to 3.3 percent in August, up from 2.9 percent in July and the highest level since September 2023.

Energy prices recorded the sharpest increase, rising 14.3 percent year-on-year, compared with 10.3 percent in July, and 2.9 percent month-on-month. Services inflation, meanwhile, eased to 3 percent from 3.3 percent, while non-energy industrial goods prices rose 1.2 percent, up from 0.9 percent.

Spain recorded the highest inflation rate among the eurozone’s major economies at 4.5 percent, followed by Italy at 3.2 percent, Germany at 2.9 percent and France at 2.7 percent.

The figures come as the European Central Bank continues to monitor price developments amid rising energy costs linked to the conflict in the Middle East. (QNA)
