Doha, April 01 (QNA) - The Ministry of Public Health (MoPH) is participating in the celebration of World Autism Awareness Day, observed annually on April 2.

This year's observance is held under the theme "Autism and Humanity – Every life Has Value," as designated by the United Nations.

The observance highlights the dignity and inherent value of all persons with autism as an essential part of collective progress and the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals. It also serves as a global platform to raise awareness of the rights of persons with autism spectrum disorder and to support efforts aimed at creating more inclusive health, educational, and community environments, enabling their full and effective participation in all aspects of life.

The State of Qatar continues to play a leading role in advancing autism-related issues at the international level. In 2007, HH Sheikha Moza bint Nasser supported the initiative calling for the designation of World Autism Awareness Day during the 62nd session of the United Nations General Assembly, which all Member States unanimously adopted. In addition to designating April 2, as World Autism Awareness Day, the resolution encouraged Member States to take the necessary measures to raise awareness of autism within their societies.

On this occasion, the MoPH is intensifying its efforts to enhance community awareness of autism spectrum disorder and encouraging families to benefit from early screening and assessment services, given their significant role in improving intervention outcomes for individuals with autism spectrum disorder.

To mark the occasion, the Ministry's main building, along with several prominent landmarks across the country, will be illuminated in blue as a symbol of solidarity with individuals with autism spectrum disorder.

The MoPH also continues, in collaboration with partners across various sectors, to develop national policies and programs that support persons with autism, in alignment with the Qatar National Vision 2030 and the National Health Strategy 2024–2030.

The Ministry has recently issued a Child Safety Guide for Children with Autism Spectrum Disorder in light of Current Situations, which includes key guidance to support families and children with autism and outlines the necessary preparedness measures to enhance family readiness and ensure their safety.

Autism spectrum disorder is a complex developmental condition that affects communication and social interaction skills, with signs typically appearing in early childhood and varying across individuals. (QNA)
