Google Supplies its Data Centers with Geothermal Electricity
Washington, November 28 (QNA) - Google announced Tuesday that an advanced geothermal project has begun pumping carbon-free electricity onto the Nevada electric grid to feed Google data centers there.
Google is cooperating with the startup company Fervo Energy to develop a new technology to harness geothermal energy.
The company said that the project is relatively small, with a generating capacity of 3.5 megawatts, given that the two companies use different methods than traditional geothermal power plants.
Google indicated that the new project is part of Google's 2030 plan to operate its data centers with electricity free of carbon pollution around the clock.
Google sees geothermal energy as an essential part of the future electricity mix that can be used when wind and solar energy diminish. (QNA)
