Antananarivo, January 27 (QNA) - At least 16 people have been killed while 19 are missing after strong tropical storm Cheneso hit Madagascar, according to the government's risk management agency.
The storm, which reached land on January 19, is the first for 2023 of an annual series that typically forms in the Indian Ocean off the island nation's coast.
Up to 55,421 people were affected in 15 regions; among them, 25,678 people have been displaced, the National Office for Risk and Disaster Management said late Thursday.
In January and February last year, four major storms hit Madagascar, killing at least 138 people, destroying 124,000 homes and displacing about 130,000 people. (QNA)
