Doha, November 02 (QNA) - Al Raya newspaper warned of Israeli occupation's ongoing disregard for international laws, agreements, and United Nations mandates, as well as its escalation of violence, including killings and forced displacement of Palestinians. The paper called for a united regional and international response to halt the brutal war on the Palestinian people.
In its editorial titled "Israeli Ban on UNRWA: A Dangerous Precedent," Al Raya condemned the occupation authorities allegations against the United Nations Relief and Works Agency (UNRWA), accusing its employees of ties to Palestinian resistance.
The paper noted that, as these claims were debunked globally, many nations resumed funding to the UN agency, prompting the occupation, in its capacity as the occupying power, to restrict UNRWA's activities. This move endangers the lives of hundreds of thousands of Palestinians, especially in Gaza.
Al Raya emphasized that nearly 90,000 Palestinians work with UNRWA, which provides essential humanitarian, medical, and educational services, arguing that UNRWA's role is purely humanitarian.
Al Raya pointed to the State of Qatar's condemnation of Israel's ban on UNRWA activities in the occupied territories, labeling it a dangerous precedent against the United Nations and multilateral diplomacy, pointing out that this move as part of an ongoing campaign of systematic oppression and genocide, aimed at undermining a vital humanitarian organization.
Al Raya pointed to the global consensus that the occupation systematic targeting of UNRWA reflects a desperate attempt to isolate Palestinians, cutting off a vital lifeline in the occupied territories.
The paper warned that Palestinians in Gaza, already suffering catastrophic conditions from over a year of continuous aggression, will face worsening hardship due to these oppressive policies with dire humanitarian and political consequences.
Al Raya concluded by underscoring UNRWA's founding mission, established by international mandate, to provide support for Palestinians displaced by occupation and subject to poverty, hunger, and deprivation. Rather than facing accountability for its actions, Israel intensifies its violent campaign against Palestinians, targeting everything that sustains their existence and ties them to their land. (QNA)
