Doha, December 08 (QNA) - Executive Director of Transport Operations at the Supreme Committee for Delivery and Legacy (SC), Abdulaziz Al Mawlawi, said that the transportation experience in the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022 was a great success, thanks to the ease of access, and smooth and very simple crowd management.
Al Mawlawi said in press statements that the number of passengers who used the Doha Metro to move to and from the World Cup stadiums amounted to 11 million during the group stage and the round of 16. He highlighted that 3.8 million passengers also used free public transport buses to reach their destination.
Private vehicles such as Karwa, Karim, Uber were available to help fans move to the stadiums, and the number of cars reached 700,000, but the metro remained the main of movement and the process of transportation in the tournament without any problems or crowds at all.
Al Mawlawi expressed his great happiness with the widespread praise for Qatar's organization of the 2022 World Cup, the great success of the transfer process and the great smoothness in the fans' arrival to the stadiums, in which the number of attendees in some matches reached more than 89,000 fans.
The Executive Director of Transport Operations at the Supreme Committee for Delivery and Legacy explained that a control room for operations has been working around the clock since the kick-off of the championship to solve any emergency problems, he said.
He stressed that the great cooperation between the General Traffic Department in Qatar and the Public Works Authority in installing informative signs in all languages, in addition to all bodies and institutions in the State of Qatar, and the clear solidarity contributed to the success of the transportation plan throughout the championship period.
Al Mawlawi added that the plan was put and extensively scrutinized four years ago, highlighting its so far great success despite the many difficulties and challenges. (QNA)
