Luis de la Fuente is a New Coach of Spain's National Team, Succeeding Enrique
Madrid, December 08 (QNA) - The Spanish Football Federation announced today, the appointment of Luis de la Fuente, as a head coach to the national team, to succeed Luis Enrique, who was dismissed after the elimination of the team from the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022.
The Spanish Federation stated in a statement, that it had selected Luis de la Fuente, the current head coach of Spain's Under-21 youth team, to take charge of the first national team following Enrique's dismissal earlier in the day due to the exit from the second round of the World Cup.
De la Fuente, (61) has worked since 2013 with Spain's age groups, winning the European U-19 Championships in 2015, and also he led the U-21 Team to win the same Championship in 2021.
Also, De la Fuente, coached Spain's U-23 Olympic team during the Tokyo Olympics last year, winning a silver medal after losing to Brazil 1-2 in the final.
The first match for La Fuente with Spain national team will be against Norway on March 25 in the opening of qualifying round for the European Cup of Nations (Euro 2024).
Spain lost to Morocco in the last 16 round of the World Cup on penalty kicks (0- 3) after a goalless draw in the original and extra times. Spain finished as a runner-up with 4 points in Group E in the first stage scoring 7-0 against Costa Rica, 1-1 draw with Germany and lost 1-2 to Japan. (QNA)
