Morocco Coach Considers Spain Match as Difficult, Stressing Morocco's Ability to Win
Doha, December 05 (QNA) - Coach of Morocco national football team Walid Regragui confirmed his great confidence in his players ability to surprise and defeat the Spanish national football team in tomorrows match, in the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022 knock-out stage.
Regragui said in a press conference today that he thinks that tomorrows match will be a difficult one, as it will be a confrontation with one of the most prominent champion candidates. He added that his team trained well in the past few days and tried to prepare as well as possible to give a surprising performance.
The coach explained that among his ranks are footballers who play in the Spanish League, and who are very familiar with the way the Spanish squad plays. He noted that this is not to say that the confrontation will be easy, as the Atlas Lions are playing their fourth match and want to win it, indicating that undoubtedly every match has its own calculations, with tomorrow's confrontation having its own particularity.
Regragui pointed out that the Moroccan team scored a goal in its match with Canada to win and lead the group, which put great pressure on the teams players. He added that it is imperative that his team is at maximum physical and mental readiness, given that the game can be extended to reach 120 minutes.
Regarding some doubts surrounding the participation of the player Azzedine Ounahi, the coach said that he is trying to recover, and if successful, he will take part in the match, and if not, then the substitute will take part.
Walid Regragui praised Spains Coach Luis Enriques playing style as well as the "tiki-taka" ball possessing method. Regragui said that the Spanish national team plays in its usual style, in which it keeps possession of the ball, adding difficult to the opponent team.
The coach indicated that the Atlas Lions will try to pose a challenge to their Spanish counterpart, especially after Morocco demonstrated its strength in the matches against Croatia and Belgium.
The Moroccan squads coach denied having thought of seeking revenge in tomorrow's match against Spain, highlighting that the match will bring together two great teams, and that he and his team are working to strengthen their management style of this type of matches, given that this is Moroccos first time to reach the Knock-out stage in 36 years.
The coach continued by saying that everyone wants to come to Doha and support the Moroccan national team, especially since Morocco is the last Arab and African team in the World Cup, seeking to write history for the sake of their country and fans.
Regragui asked rhetorically Why not dream of winning the World Cup?! Since his team has the ability to achieve that, since whoever dreams, can reach their dream, stressing that the Atlas Lions will strive for their ambition. Regragui expressed respect to the Spanish national football team, yet the Moroccan squad in turn has the potential to achieve its aspirations.
For his part, the Moroccan national teams goalkeeper Munir Mohammedi said that everyone in the squad is considering ways to bring glory to Moroccan football, stressing the high spirit that surrounds the team ahead of tomorrow's confrontation.
Mohammedi added in a statement today that they are trying to make their fans happy, which is the teams highest aspiration, emphasizing the pride the squad feels about the fans great support, and pledging to play with a high fighting spirit in order to win.
The goalkeeper remarked that the Spanish team is one of the teams that are nominated to win the World Cup, ye its Moroccan counterpart will try to play a big match and demonstrate its great capabilities tomorrow.
Mohammedi expressed his happiness to be in the World Cup for the second time in a row, and that it does not matter which player fills in the role, whether he or Yassine Bounou, because the most important thing is that the team moves up to the quarterfinals and make history.
