London, December 28 (QNA) - The FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022 topped the online public poll conducted by the British Broadcasting Corporation (BBC) on its English-language website, as the best version of the FIFA World Cup in the twenty-first century.
FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022 won 78 percent of the website visitors votes with a wide difference from its closest competitor the 2002 FIFA World Cup Korea/Japan that got 6 percent of the vote, while the World Cup in Brazil of 2014 came in third place with 5 percent of the vote. The 2006 Germany and 2018 Russia editions only got 4 percent of the vote for each, while the 2010 World Cup in South Africa came last with 3 percent of the vote.
The website said that the Qatar World Cup witnessed the best World Cup final ever, when Argentina tied with France with three goals each in the original and extra time of the match, with Argentina winning with a penalty shootout, gaining its third cup in its history after such an exciting match.
The site pointed out that the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022 witnessed a large number of surprises, such as Morocco's reaching the semi-finals after defeating Belgium, Canada, Spain and Portugal, as well as Saudi Arabia's victory over Argentina at the start of the tournament, and Japan's victory over Germany in the group stage.
It is worth noting that the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022, the first World Cup edition to be held in the Arab region and the Middle East, gained international acclaim and great success, which was confirmed by FIFA President Gianni Infantino in many statements before and After the World Cup. (QNA)
