Madrid, December 16 (QNA) - Spain's Sergio Busquets, Barcelona midfielder announced his decision to retire from international football on social media 10 days after Spain were knocked out of the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022 in the Round of 16 against Morocco.

The 34-year-old played 143 times for La Roja, winning the 2010 World Cup and the 2012 European Championship with the side.

The midfielder played all of Spain's World Cup games in Qatar, captaining the side until their early exit at the hands of Morocco.

Busquets said on social media: " I would like to announce that after almost 15 years and 143 games, the time has come to say goodbye to the national team. I want to thank all the people that have joined me on this journey." Busquets' club future is also up in the air, with his Barcelona contract soon to run out in June 2023. (QNA)
