Doha, December 09 (QNA) - The Coach of the Netherlands national team Louis van Gaal expressed disappointment as his country failed to qualify for the semi-finals of the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022 after losing to his Argentine counterpart on penalties 4-3 following a 2-2 draw in the normal playing time and extra time, announcing the end of his mission with the Dutch team.
In the post-match press conference, Louis van Gaal said the team presented a very good level in the match, especially in the second half, except that they made some mistakes that cost them two goals, but they changed a lot of things, including the way they play, and they attacked intensively and showed a strong reaction which enabled them to get back into the game very late, adding, that the match went to penalties, and they were unlucky and lost the match.
Gaal expressed his frustration about the loss and the exit, but stressed his pride in his players and what they presented, just as they were satisfied with their appearance in the World Cup in general.
Van Gaal concluded by saying that tonight's match was his last match with his country's national team, according to the contract concluded between him and the local Football Association. (QNA)
