Doha, November 30 (QNA) - National teams of Germany and Costa Rica aim to snatch the chance to qualify for the knockout stage of the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022, as they meet on Thursday at Al Bayt Stadium withing the group E competition of the tournament.

Spain top the group standings with 4 point followed by Japan and Costa Rica with 3 points each (Japan leads in number of goals), while Germany tail the group with a single point.

Germany's only chance to continue their World Cup campaign is to win their encounter with Costa Rica.

To qualify for the knockout stage of the tournament, Germany must defeat Costa Rica and hope for Spain to beat or tie with Japan. In the case of a tie between Spain and Japan Germany could have an advantage of goals number over Japan.

Costa Rica, who received a heavy defeat from Spain (0-7) before adjusting their lines and beating Japan (1-0), will do everything to win and snatch the Qualification pass. If they tie with Germany, they will await the Spain - Japan Match result.

On Tuesday, FIFA announced appointing Referee Stephanie Frappart of France to officiate the Germany Costa Rica match. (QNA)
