Doha, November 27 (QNA) - The Uruguay national football team coach, Diego Alonso, expressed hope to achieve victory over Portugal on Monday at Lusail Stadium in the Group H match of the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022 to qualify for the next stage.
In the press conference before the match, Alonso considered that facing Portugal tomorrow will be completely different from Uruguay's tied match against South Korea, stressing that the Uruguayan squad seeks to win in every match and stay in the tournament, especially against Portugal tomorrow, in light of Uruguay's tie with South Korea in the previous match.
In response to a question about preparing to face a strong competitor such as the Portuguese national football team and choosing the appropriate lineup, Alonso said that every confrontation is analyzed in advance, building the team's strategy and lineup accordingly, as well as choosing the best players according to their readiness, given that the technical team is the closest to the players.
In turn, Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Rodrigo Bentancur said in the press conference that the squad is aware that it did not play well during its previous match against South Korea, however, it will play a tough game tomorrow against Portugal and will do everything in its capacity to win, reminding that the Uruguayan team indeed won against Portugal in 2018, although tomorrow's confrontation will be different, because the Uruguayan squad has developed, and its ambitions have increased.
