Doha, November 27 (QNA) - Coach of Portugal national football team Fernando Santos confirmed the team's readiness to face Uruguay tomorrow, in the second match of those Group H teams as part of the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022.
Speaking at the press conference today, Santos expressed great confidence in his team and players capabilities to achieve the best result. The Coach said that his team will face a strong team who wants to win, and so does the Portuguese squad. Therefore, Portugal will play using its best lineup, with Santos keeping it a secret so far, until after the last training session today. The Coach elaborated by saying that every coach leads his team according to the best condition, and the team must move forward to qualify for the next round, promising Uruguay to face Portugal’s true strength.
In answering a question about Danilo Pereira's injury, Santos answered that he is saddened by Pereira's injury during yesterday’s training and for his absence from the upcoming match, and so are his companions, led by Ronaldo, because he is an influential player in the national team.
Santos added that new players have joined the Uruguayan squad and has improved its playing since their last match against Portugal in 2018, to become a fine team with strong tactics and a unique playing style. Santos however assured Portugal’s ability to beat Uruguay tomorrow.
For his part, the Manchester City midfielder Bernardo Silva described the confrontation with the Uruguay national football team as different and difficult, explaining that Portugal will play against a strong team, which it has already faced back in the 2018 FIFA World Cup Russia, in a confrontation which led to Portugal’s exit from the World Cup. Silva added that his team is going to try to win, estimating that they are on the right path and must push forward in the tournament. (QNA)
