Doha, November 24 (QNA) - The England national football team will meet US counterpart, Friday, in the second round of Group B competitions for the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022.
Leading the group with 3 points after its great victory in the first round against Iran (6-2), England national team will enter tomorrow's match seeking to achieve second successive victory to ensure qualification to the round of 16 and continue their search for the second title after the first one in 1966.
Friday's match is an opportunity to confirm England national team's qualification, based on Group B's account, which ends with playing against the Welsh national team on Nov. 29.
The England national team rely in the World Cup on a group of distinguished players led by Harry Kane, Harry Maguire, Raheem Sterling, Bukayo Saka, and Marcus Rashford. It is the same generation that competed strongly in the last edition of the World Cup in Russia and achieved fourth place.
On the other hand, the US team will search for its first victory in the tournament after a 1-1 draw in its first match against Wales. Tomorrow's victory will give it the fourth point that strengthens its chances in the competition to snatch the qualification ticket to the next stage.
The US team, which won third place in the first World Cup in Uruguay in 1930, and qualified for the quarter-finals in the 2002 World Cup in South Korea and Japan, will strive to achieve a victory that enhances its hopes of equalizing the achievement of qualifying for the semi-finals 92 years ago.
The US Soccer Federation chose the Kempinski Hotel, The Pearl, as the team's residence during the Qatar World Cup. Since it arrived in Qatar, the team has been training at the Al-Gharafa Sports Club stadium. This is the US team's 11th appearance in the World Cup. (QNA)
