Doha,November 16 (QNA) - FIFA announced that it had launched the service of protecting the social media platforms during FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022 in cooperation with FIFPRO that represents the professional footballers worldwide.
The service aims to monitor hate speech on social media and block it during the tournament. It will serve all footballers of the 32 teams participating in the tournament.
In a statement, FIFA confirmed that the service intends to counter the discrimination and safeguard footballers' mental health through SMPS service that will enable all players from the 32 teams to access surveillance, reporting and blocking features to reduce hate speech directed against them on social media, and subsequently protecting the footballers and their fans from online abuse during the tournament.
For his part, FIFA President Gianni Infantino said that FIFA is committed to providing a conducive environment for the footballers to offer the best potential they have in FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022, adding that he is pleased to launch the service that will help protect the footballers from the detrimental impact arising from the posts of social media on their mental health and well-being.
