Doha, October 09 (QNA) - Josoor Institute is leveraging Qatars hosting of the FIFA World Cup to boost the development of the sports and major events industries in the country, the region and beyond.
Established in 2013 by the Supreme Committee for Delivery & Legacy (SC), the training and education centers mandate was to ensure the knowledge gained from staging the World Cup is passed to the next generation of industry professionals. Through its world-class diploma programs and bespoke courses, Josoor Institute has supported more than 5,000 students from 90 nationalities in the run-up to the World Cup, which will take place from 20 November to 18 December.
"We are shaping the future of sports and major events industries," said Afraa Al Noaimi, Josoor Institutes Executive Director. "At Josoor, we recognize that the industries extend well beyond the field of play. We are equipping our students with the expertise and skills needed to not only manage projects and organizations in ever-growing industries but also to excel within their roles." Al Noaimi continued: "Thanks to our extensive network of professional partners and associates that help us design, develop and deliver our activities, we have been able to create a robust talent pool capable of delivering the World Cup, as well as many other major events both now and in the future." At the core of Josoor Institutes success is its flagship diploma program in sport and major events management delivered in partnership with SDA Bocconi School of Management. Many of its graduates are employed by the SC and its numerous stakeholders, many of which are directly supporting Qatars delivery of the World Cup.
Saleh Al Muhannadi, Business Support Services Executive Director, SC, said attaining a diploma in sports management gave him insight into the nuts and bolts of hosting a major sporting event.
"At the SC, my work revolves mainly around service management, so I had limited knowledge about what goes into hosting an event of this scale. The Josoor program covered key professional and management aspects of the modern sports business, its various facets and best practices. Learning about the many challenges that organizers could face encouraged me to work diligently within my role, to facilitate a safe and comfortable working environment for my colleagues here at the SC," said Al Muhannadi.
Josoor Institute also boasts a vibrant alumni community and professional network of 450 graduates. Among them is Lana Klyueva, Accommodation Project Lead at MATCH Hospitality, provider of the Official FIFA Hospitality Program for Qatar 2022. As part of her role, Klyueva works with the SC and FIFA to address the accommodation requirements of guests with hospitality packages.
"The sports and major events program really helped me structure and identify the local landscape, including the leading players, the market and network. Mostly importantly, we received a general overview of what major events management is and detailed insight about the other areas that play into it, which are outside of the function I serve as part of my job. That helped me understand the wider picture including how what I do relates to these other functions and how we can work well together," said Klyueva.
In addition to the diploma programme, Josoor Institute offers a number of education and training programs in sports management, event management, leadership development and workforce. The Josoor Knowledge Hub, meanwhile, hosts regular panel sessions involving leading international experts.
Beyond the tournament, Josoor Institute will continue to drive forward its mission of building an educational legacy in Qatar and the region.
"Hosting the World Cup has presented many opportunities for people in Qatar and across the region. We are seeing the tournament legacy being delivered before the big kick-off and our aim is to fulfill our goal of leaving a sustainability legacy and continuing the reach the targets of the countrys sports strategy," said Al Noaimi.
