Algerian Parliamentarians, Politicians, Economists and Experts Aspire for Summit Matching Challenges
Algiers, October 29 (QNA) - Algeria strongly betting on the success of the 2022 Arab League Summit that will be held during Nov. 1-2 in its 31 regular session, a bit that Algerians see as a legitimate right for their country that employed its diplomacy and capabilities for holding this summit and come up with results that match regional and international challenges.
During the preliminary session that started on Oct. 26, 2022, Algeria clearly expressed its expectations from the summit, when Algeria's permanent representative at the UN Ennadir Larbaoui said that Algeria wants it to be a consensual Arab summit that stems from our common constants and reflects the aspirations of our people for the solidarity of the Arab world. A summit that benefits from the lessons of the past and collectively face the challenges of the present and look to the future with comprehensive strategic vision for strengthening security and stability while building bridges of constructive and positive cooperation with our Islamic and African neighbors.
He stressed the need for a renewed approach to deal with the agenda, which is filled with various political issues, a successful positive approach that enables us - collectively and consensually - to address these issues and to submit sound constructive draft resolutions to Their Excellencies Ministers for Foreign Affairs during their preliminary meeting of this promising summit.
Algerian parliamentarians, political experts, and economists believe that the Algerian aspirations for the Arab League Summit are almost unanimously agreed upon by many Algerians. Considering the regional and international circumstances, many Algerians perceive the urgency of making this summit a success to unite the Arab front, resolve many thorny regional issues, and strong Arab comeback to the international arena in a manner that preserves their interests and strengthens their role to face current various global political, economic, and security issues.
In this regard, Member of the Council of the Nation (Algerian Parliament first chamber) Hamza Al Sid Cheikh said that Algerian people aspire that this summit comes up with practical resolutions and achieves Arab consensus. He added that Algerian people consider the success of this summit as a victory for just causes, given Algerias sloid humanitarian stances.
In his exclusive remarks to Qatar News Agency (QNA), the Member of the Algerian Council of the Nation sees that the success of the summit represents a new milestone for Algerian diplomacy, which is based on firm principles of standing at the same distance from conflicting parties and calling for peaceful resolutions of conflicts, which should be highlighted at this summit. He considered the summit to be the first in terms of size and scale, anticipating it to achieve political gains and solutions for the Arab causes.
For his part, Member of the Peoples National Assembly (Algerian Parliament second chamber) Dr. Berriche Abdelkader stresses that the Algerian people expect an inclusive and uniting Arab League Summit that responds to the aspirations of the Arab peoples and strengthens the Arab joint action in the face of the current challenges.
In a similar statement to QNA, Dr. Abdelkader added that the Palestinian cause always remains in the hearts and minds of all Algerians, which is why the Algerian people aspire that the Palestinian cause is at the top of Arab leaders priorities during the upcoming summit.
For his part, Professor of Political Science and international Affairs at University of Algiers Dr. Radwan Bouhdil said that Algerian people await a historical summit in its recommendations and outcomes that match the current regional and international situation, most importantly to be an inclusive and Arab uniting summit.
Dr. Bouhdil pointed out that Algeria – on both official and public levels – aspires for an Arab-Arab consensus in the first place. He didn’t rule out the summit returning the Palestinian cause to the top of Arab leaders’ priorities, highlighting the true Arab nation issues, resolving the region’s crises, in addition to establishing an impenetrable Arab front against the repercussions of the Russian-Ukrainian war and unifying Arab views concerning it.
In his remarks to QNA, Bouhdil believes that the success of the Arab League Summit in Algeria is a success of Algerian diplomacy, especially as it largely bets on the success of this summit that has been postponed due to COVID-19 repercussions, which led to the accumulation of files and issues that must be raised during this summit to come up with resolutions that will be historically attached to Algeria.
In this context, Professor of Communication Information at the University of Algiers Dr. Laeed Zaghlami summed up the Algerian's aspirations from the Arab League Summit in "Algeria’s commitment to Arab reunification", unifying the fronts for a common destiny, and creating a new dynamic for the Arab League to make it more influential in international forums. He noted the need to seize this opportunity and restore the communication between the Arabs to form scientific and industrial blocs.
In exclusive remarks to QNA, Dr. Zaghlami believes that the success Arab League Summit in Algeria is linked to achieving these expectations into a reality. He also stressed that being part of the Arab nation, Algeria is morally and politically committed to exerting hard efforts for the sake of Arab nation causes.
He pointed out that the Palestinian cause comes at the top topics to be discussed on the agenda of the Summit, as well as African-European relations, Greater Arab Free Trade Area (GAFTA), economy, investment, and commercial exchange.
Dr. Zaghlami added that this is a reunification summit, as this is the title that Algeria gave for the summit in its 31 session, which will be held during Nov. 1-2 after being postponed due to COVID-19 pandemic restrictions. He pointed out that Algeria has extended the invitation to guests of honor, led by the Secretary-General of the United Nations, Antonio Guterres, which adds new dimensions to this session.
He referred that hosting critical and difficult summits is not new for Algeria. In 1973, Algeria hosted the Arab League Summit amid the October war, in 1988 with the outbreak of Palestinian Intifada, and in 2005 after the death of the late President Yasser Arafat and the assassination of the late Lebanese Prime Minister Rafic Hariri. He said that this record of critical summits might give Algeria an advantage in being able to build a bridge of Arab understanding.
In his exclusive remarks to QNA on the economic aspirations from the summit, Algerian expert for international institutions Dr. Mohamed Hamitouche said that Algeria aspires that this Arab League Summit comes up with resolutions that contribute to the development of trade exchange and economic cooperation between Arab countries and come up with a unified mechanism regarding the development of Arab economic and financial affairs.
Dr. Hamitouche also added that Arab food security, agricultural and industrial self-sufficiency, and the promotion of investments in these two sectors (agriculture and industry) with finding various outlets to finance various productive investment projects are important issues that must be addressed at the summit, to ensure a promising Arab future for generations to come.
