LoginEgyptian, Foreign Minister Discusses Regional Situation with Omani, Bahraini Counterparts
Cairo, September 5 (QNA) Egyptian Foreign Minister Badr Abdelatty discussed regional developments and efforts to contain current tensions in two separate phone calls today with his Omani counterpart, Badr bin Hamad Al-Busaidi, and his Bahraini counterpart, Abdul Latif bin Rashid Al-Zayani. They also exchanged assessments on ways to restore calm and stability to the region.
In a statement today, the Egyptian Foreign Ministry said that Abdelatty stressed, during his call with his Omani counterpart, the priority of de-escalation and avoiding any steps that could fuel tensions and threaten the security and stability of the region.
He emphasized the need to allow space for diplomatic efforts as the best way to address the root causes of the crisis and to return to negotiations between the United States and Iran, in accordance with the Islamabad Memorandum of Understanding, building upon it as a framework for addressing outstanding issues through dialogue and negotiation.
The two sides also discussed developments in the Strait of Hormuz and their implications for regional security and the global economy. They stressed the need to maintain the security and safety of maritime navigation and ensure the smooth flow of trade and energy supplies.
During his call with his Bahraini counterpart, the Egyptian Foreign Minister affirmed that the security of Bahrain and the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) states is an integral part of Egyptian national security, stressing the need to halt the current escalation and avoid any steps that could broaden the scope of the confrontation.
