LoginJordanian FM Says US Troop Presence Under Defense Cooperation Agreement
Vienna, September 03 (QNA) - Minister of Foreign Affairs of Jordan Ayman Safadi said Thursday that the presence of US forces in Jordan is framed under a defense cooperation agreement with the United States.
During a joint press conference in Vienna with Minister of Foreign Affairs of Austria Beate Meinl-Reisinger, Safadi noted that the presence of US forces in Jordan is structured under this agreement, where these forces are stationed at Jordanian military bases and cooperate with the Jordanian Armed Forces in several fields.
Safadi explained that this cooperation also exists with other partner countries that have forces in Jordan as part of defense cooperation.
This includes cooperation with Austria, as both countries signed an agreement months ago framing the presence of Austrian forces cooperating with Jordan in military training and exchange of expertise.
Safadi stated that Jordan's cooperation with partner countries has extended for years and has been effective in anti-terrorism efforts, stressing that Jordan will continue to exercise its sovereign and legal right to take all necessary steps to protect its security, stability, sovereignty, and the safety of its citizens.
Discussions between the foreign ministers of Jordan and Austria covered ways to enhance cooperation in economic, commercial, investment, tourism, educational, and defense fields.
Safadi and Reisinger also discussed regional developments and targeted efforts to end escalation in the region and promote security and stability. (QNA)
