Baghdad, September 25 (QNA) - Iraqi Foreign Minister, Fuad Hussein and US Assistant Secretary of State for Near Eastern Affairs, Donald Blome discussed security developments in the Middle East and their repercussions for regional states as well as navigation security in the Strait of Hormuz.
In a press statement, the Iraqi Foreign Ministry noted that the meeting took place on the sidelines of the 81st session of the UN General Assembly in New York. Hussein emphasized the importance of sparing Iraq and the region from further fallout resulting from escalating tensions, pointing out that his country has been among those most affected by the tensions and conflicts between the United States and Iran, along with the associated security and economic consequences.
The Iraqi Foreign Minister reiterated his country's support for international efforts aimed at reaching an understanding between the United States and Iran that contributes to ensuring the security and freedom of navigation in the Strait of Hormuz.
The meeting also addressed the course of security and military cooperation between Baghdad and Washington, specifically the transition to a phase focused on advisory support, training, and intelligence cooperation, alongside the finalization of procedures to conclude the International Coalition's mission in Iraq.
