Ramallah, September 24 (QNA) - Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas affirmed that the Palestinian people will not leave their homeland, will not accept displacement, and will not allow anyone to decide their future on their behalf.
He reiterated his commitment to a peace based on international legitimacy, one that ensures freedom, independence, security, and peace for all the peoples of the region.
In a recorded speech to the 81st session of the UN General Assembly in New York, the Palestinian President said that the Palestinian people will not remain waiting, nor will accept what the governments of the Israeli occupying power decide for them; for no lasting security can be built upon the occupation of another people and the denial of their legitimate rights.
"We have our national project, based on protecting our people from displacement, preserving our land and its unity, democratically renewing our institutions, and exercising our right to self-determination, ultimately realizing an independent, sovereign state with East Jerusalem as its capital and securing the return of refugees in accordance with UN Resolution 194," he said.
Abbas pointed out that the Palestinian people are facing one of the most perilous stages in their history, emphasizing that the danger is no longer limited to undermining the two-state solution and preventing the realization of a Palestinian state; rather, it now threatens the very lives and existence of the Palestinian people on their own land.
He stressed that the events unfolding in Gaza and the West Bank, including East Jerusalem, are not isolated incidents, but part of a malicious colonial scheme aimed at forcing Palestinians to leave their homeland. (QNA)
