New York, September 23 (QNA) - Prime Minister Nawaf Salam of Lebanon, alongside European Commissioner for the Mediterranean Dubravka Suica and UNDP Administrator Alexander De Croo, chaired the high-profile meeting titled Moving Beyond Crisis.
The meeting took place on the sidelines of the United Nations General Assembly in New York at the joint invitation of Lebanon, the European Union and the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP).
The meeting was laser-focused on developing a more effective international approach to addressing metastasizing crises, drawing on Lebanon's experience during the war in the south and exploring avenues for substantially strengthening the state's role and institutions in spearheading the response and recovery.
It also addressed the need to direct international support toward enhancing Lebanon's capabilities rather than establishing parallel systems, while providing more flexible funding tools to help navigate the transition from emergency response to uninterrupted recovery and reconstruction.
Salam said that moving beyond the crisis in Lebanon wasn't a theoretical concept but a reality the country is living today, one from which lessons can indeed be drawn that transcend Lebanon's borders.
He noted that crises have become longer, more frequent and more intertwined, making it impractical to wait for one phase to end before beginning the next. He added that, amid the war in the south, Lebanon continues to assist displaced families while also supporting the resilience of people in the south and facilitating their return to their towns and villages, rehabilitating schools and water, electricity, and road networks, restoring livelihoods, and advancing recovery and reconstruction.
