New York, September 23 (QNA) - UK Prime Minister Andy Burnham affirmed that his country will do everything in its power to keep alive the prospect of a viable Palestinian state and advance efforts toward a two-state solution.
Addressing the 81st session of the United Nations General Assembly, Burnham highlighted the worsening humanitarian situation in the Gaza Strip, stressing that far too little humanitarian aid is reaching the enclave and that the suffering has continued for far too long.
He also underscored the UK's commitment to strengthening its defense capabilities in parallel with efforts to bolster European security. He said the UK would continue investing in its defenses, meeting its NATO commitments and contributing to stronger European defense capabilities.
Turning to artificial intelligence, Burnham highlighted both its transformative potential and the risks it presents. He said the UK and the United States are launching a new AI and Autonomy partnership aimed at using advanced technologies to protect critical national infrastructure, strengthen deterrence and enhance security.
He added that the UK would work to advance international principles and standards for AI, with a focus on transparency, preparedness and the safe and responsible development of the technology. (QNA)
