New York, September 22 (QNA) - Jordan's King Abdullah II said that what is happening in the Gaza Strip was an attempt to erase the Palestinian presence and impose a new reality, describing the Israeli government's policy in the West Bank as forced displacement and a war crime.

In remarks to the 81st session of the United Nations General Assembly, the Jordanian king said Israel's current government continued to disregard the cease-fire agreement in the Gaza Strip, press ahead with its attacks, destroy civilian infrastructure, refuse to withdraw and confine Palestinians to one-third of the territory.

He also urged countries around the world to abandon the mistaken notion that the Gaza Strip and the West Bank were separate issues in resolving the Israeli-Palestinian conflict. Israeli attempts to divert the world's attention from its attacks were no longer effective, he said, as people around the world were paying close attention to the conflict.

He said the international community's failure to take action to condemn Israel had turned it into a country without constraints. Each time the international community looked away, Israel concluded that it could go further and cross geographic and legal boundaries, he said.

The Jordanian king said the Israeli government's expansionist ambitions had become a regional threat, adding that Syria was a warning of this danger that the international community had chosen to ignore.

He said the continuation of one of the world's longest occupations raised a fundamental question: If international law could be disregarded for decades, what remained of its value?

"We will not abandon our commitment to a just peace. We will continue to support Palestinian resilience. We will continue supporting UNRWA," King Abdullah said. (QNA)
