US State Department Approves USD 2.7 Billion Worth of Air Defense Sales to Ukraine
Washington, September 19 (QNA) - The US State Department has approved a potential sale of air defense equipment to Ukraine valued at USD 2.68 billion.
In a congressional notification, the State Department said that it made "a determination approving a possible Foreign Military Sale to the Government of Ukraine" for buying air defense development upgrades and related equipment and services.
The notification indicated that Ukraine requested equipment including various types of missiles, launchers, anti-drone radars, and trailers.
"If the proposed purchase is concluded, Ukraine would finance it using a combination of European contributions and U.S. Foreign Military Financing appropriated during the prior Administration," the State Department said.
The proposed sale remains subject to Congressional review.
Notably, US President Donald Trump said days ago that he would ask Europeans to reimburse the cost of US aid provided to Ukraine during the tenure of his predecessor, Joe Biden.
He has long demanded that Europeans shoulder more of the cost of Western support for Ukraine. (QNA)
