EU Gas Prices Surge to Their Highest Since Late 2022
Amsterdam, September 14 (QNA) - Natural gas prices in Europe have risen sharply, as a result of supply concerns stemming from disruptions in gas flow from production areas in the Middle East.
The benchmark natural gas futures contract TTF for next month's delivery rose by more than 5 percent at the start of trading on the Amsterdam Stock Exchange on Monday, reaching 83.75 euros (USD 97.13) per megawatt-hour, its highest level since the end of 2022.
Market investors are concerned that the disruption to liquefied natural gas (LNG) supplies from the Middle East will continue for an extended period due to the closure of the Strait of Hormuz.
The price of European gas has almost tripled during 2026, with no end in sight to the current crisis and the associated restrictions on energy supplies. European countries are also facing time pressure to replenish their low gas stocks before winter arrives. (QNA)
