Team Qatar Win 5th Round of European Le Mans Series at Silverstone
Silverstone, September 13 (QNA) - Team Qatar topped the LMGT3 standings in the European Le Mans Series (ELMS) after winning the Goodyear 4 Hours of Silverstone, the fifth round of the endurance championship, at the iconic Silverstone circuit.
The Qatari squad, comprising drivers Abdullah Al Khalifa, Julien Hanses and Ralf Aron, in partnership with Iron Lynx, delivered a strong and consistent performance throughout the four-hour endurance race. A combination of pace, consistency and well-executed teamwork saw the team cross the finish line in first place.
Supported by the Qatar Motor and Motorcycle Federation, the team made an ideal start to the weekend when Abdullah Al Khalifa secured pole position in the LMGT3 class during qualifying, posting a time of 2:00.011, his third pole position in the LMGT3 category this season.
Starting the main race from pole in the No. 62 Mercedes-AMG LMGT3, the Qatar team maintained a strong pace at the front throughout the four-hour contest to claim its first victory of the 2026 ELMS season.
Before the Silverstone round, the fifth of six races on the calendar, the Qatar team sat third in the LMGT3 standings with 47 points, just six points behind the championship leaders.
The Silverstone victory, combined with the additional championship point earned for pole position, lifted the team to the top of the standings with 73 points, putting it in a strong position to fight for the championship title with just one round remaining.
The sixth and final round of the European Le Mans Series is scheduled to take place at the Algarve International Circuit in Portimao, Portugal, on October 10. (QNA)
