Riyadh, August 08 (QNA) - The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia on Saturday welcomed the Security Council statement issued Friday and its condemnation of the missile attacks the Houthis have been launching against the Kingdom since July 13, along with attacks against commercial vessels since July 22.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs lauded the statement, which included an emphasis on the importance of complying with international law and the relevant Security Council resolutions, chiefly Resolution 2216.

The Ministry stressed that what matters more is respecting the sovereignty of the Republic of Yemen, its unity, independence and territorial integrity, in addition to rejecting actions that imperil regional security, as well as the rights and freedoms of maritime navigation.

In addition, the Ministry reiterated its calls on the international community to undertake its responsibilities toward implementing the relevant Security Council resolutions and taking a resolute stance toward actions and violations that threaten the security and stability of the region, the safety of navigation and global commerce, and impair the ongoing efforts to achieve peace in Yemen and the region.

It reaffirmed that the Kingdom vows to safeguard its security and sovereignty, as well as its right to self-defense and to defend its citizens, assets and facilities against any targeted attack, in addition to taking all essential measures that comport with international law.

The Ministry further stressed the Kingdom's unwavering support for the legitimate Yemeni government, along with the efforts made by the UN Special Envoy for Yemen to achieve peace, security and stability in Yemen, strengthen regional security and stability, and safeguard maritime security and safety.
