Jeddah, August 08 (QNA) - The third International Nuclear Science Olympiad (INSO 2026) wrapped up Saturday in the Saudi city of Jeddah after running for a week.

The event saw the participation of 120 students and scientific specialists representing 19 countries, under the theme "Bright Minds, A Promising Future".

The Olympiad, approved by the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) in 2024, is a global scientific platform aimed at secondary-school students, seeking to advance their knowledge and skills in nuclear science, as well as strengthen awareness of the safe and peaceful uses of nuclear technologies.

It also encourages young people to specialize in the field and spurs them to leverage science and innovation in developing solutions that contribute to sustainable development.

The closing ceremony featured the announcement of the results and the honoring of winners with medals and special awards, with Pakistan taking over from Saudi Arabia as host of the next edition in 2027.

Saudi student Amjad Mahmoud Issa Al Darwish won first place and the gold medal, as well as the title of "Nuclear Science Ambassador," after achieving the highest combined score in the theoretical and practical tests among the competitors.

The event saw eight gold medals, 13 silver medals and 18 bronze medals awarded, along with a number of special awards. (QNA)
