Municipality Ministry Declares Kingfish Fishing Ban from Aug. 15 to Oct. 31
Doha, August 04 (QNA) - The Ministry of Municipality has announced the commencement of the kingfish fishing ban using gill nets, effective from Aug. 15 until Oct. 31, 2026.
The move is part of its efforts to protect fish stocks and ensure the sustainability of marine resources.
In a statement Tuesday, the Ministry said the ban aims to reduce fishing pressure during the kingfish breeding season, thereby helping preserve stocks and ensuring their sustainability for future generations.
The Ministry noted that only line fishing will be permitted during the ban period, while the use of gill nets will be prohibited, adding that regulating fishing seasons is part of the measures taken to conserve marine resources and ensure their sustainability.
Throughout 2025, the Ministry explained, the yielded production of kingfish reached roughly 3,484 tons, demonstrating the significance of this kind of species in terms of economic and nutritional importance.
It stressed that this requires moving ahead with the enforcement of regulatory procedures that help maintain natural stocks and sustain production.
As such, the Ministry urged all fishermen to adhere to the ban duration and permitted fishing methods, emphasizing that this would contribute to protecting stocks and marine resources and ensuring sustainability for generations to come. (QNA)
