LoginSamsung Electronics Leads Smartphone Markets in Middle East, Africa in Q2
Seoul, August 31 (QNA) - Although the smartphone market in the Middle East and Africa contracted in the second quarter of this year, Samsung Electronics sharply increased its market share and held on to its top spot.
Samsung Electronics' shipment share rose 10 percentage points, from 22% to 32%. As the overall market shrank, Samsung Electronics grew by absorbing share lost by Infinix, Tecno, and Xiaomi.
Yonhap reported that according to market researcher Counterpoint Research, smartphone shipments in the Middle East and Africa fell 10% in the second quarter compared with the same period last year.
By brand, Samsung Electronics was followed by Tecno at 15%, Xiaomi at 12%, Apple Inc. at 10%, Infinix at 5%, and Realme at 3%.
Counterpoint Research said the weakness in the Middle East and Africa market stemmed from a contraction in the low-cost smartphone segment priced at $250 or less.
Shipments in that price range fell 26% from a year earlier, marking the steepest decline among all price tiers. (QNA)
