LoginArab League Warns of Perilous Israeli Plans to Expand Jewish Communities in Negev, Galilee
Cairo, August 31 (QNA) - The Arab League said it is deeply concerned about the remarks and plans declared by the extremist Israeli Finance Minister regarding the expansion of new Jewish settlements in the Negev and Galilee regions, increasing the population numbers there, along with policies affecting Arab towns and the authority of planning and land agencies.
In a statement Monday, Secretary-General Nabil Fahmy stressed that the implications of these plans in terms of discrimination based on national identity and belonging telegraph a grave escalation of racist tendencies within the international community.
These plans deepen the approach of discrimination and exclusion at the expense of the principles of equality and the rights of Arab citizens, Fahmy underlined, warning of the perilous societal and political consequences of institutionalizing such approaches and turning them into public policies.
He pointed out that these developments are cast in the broader context of Israeli policies intended to impose a new fait accompli on the ground, chiefly settlement expansion, impairing the foundations of a Palestinian state, which obviously go at variance with the rules-based international order and imperil the opportunities of reaching a fair and enduring political settlement.
As such, Fahmy further stressed that the international community should assume its responsibilities in fending off these policies and maintaining the foundations for establishing an independent Palestinian state on the Jun. 4,1967, lines, with East Jerusalem as its capital.
He underscored that the two-state solution is the sole off-ramp to achieving lasting security, stability and peace in the region. (QNA)
