Beijing, August 27 (QNA) - Chinese authorities announced Thursday morning that three people had died and 558 others were missing after a mudslide struck a port on the China-Nepal border in the Tibet Autonomous Region in southwestern China.
The mudslide, which occurred on the Nepalese side, struck the Gyirong Port in Gyirong County, Tibet Autonomous Region, Wednesday morning. 
Chinese authorities launched large-scale rescue operations on Thursday, activating a Level II emergency response for geological disasters and dispatching a task force to the affected site to oversee rescue efforts and prevent secondary disasters.
The disaster cut off roads leading to the port on the Chinese side, as well as communications and power supplies.
Meanwhile, Nepalese authorities reported that at least 162 people had died after massive floods swept through a border area between Nepal and China, with hundreds of tourists, workers, and others reported missing. Travel has also been suspended in some areas.
Gyirong Port is a major land port connecting China and Nepal. (QNA)
