Jeddah, August 13 (QNA) - The 3rd planning meeting for the Multinational Maritime Defense Coalition (MMDC) was held in Jeddah on Thursday, and attended by representatives from 39 countries.

The Saudi Press Agency (SPA) reported that 15 countries signed the joint statement, while 13 countries completed their national procedures, signed the coalition charter, and officially joined, marking the coalition's transition to institutional and operational activation. The remaining countries are continuing to complete the necessary national procedures to join the coalition.

This development coincides with the rapid progress in completing the coalition's institutional framework, including the appointment of the coalition commander from the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, the agreement that the deputy commander for the first term will be from the Islamic Republic of Pakistan, the selection of the coalition headquarters and the adoption of its logo, and the completion of the organizational and planning frameworks and reference manuals necessary for the commencement of its operations.

The third planning meeting contributed to finalizing the practical arrangements for activating the Alliance's multinational command and control structures. This paves the way for receiving and integrating officers and personnel from member states into the Joint Command and Staff, the Joint Maritime Operations and Coordination Center, and the Coalition Intelligence Center. This will accelerate the development of the Alliance's operational capabilities and enhance its readiness to undertake its defensive missions within its area of ​​responsibility.

This transition represents a significant step forward in building a sustainable, multinational maritime defense alliance. Its aim is to solidify the concept of collective maritime security, protect freedom of navigation and maritime straits, and support the continuity of international trade and global supply chains.
