Various Arab Capitals, August 14 (QNA) - Arab condemnations continued today of the Iranian attack targeting two oil tankers belonging to the UAE's ADNOC while they were transiting the Strait of Hormuz yesterday evening, amid warnings over its repercussions for maritime security and the safe movement of trade and energy in the region and worldwide.

The Jordanian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, in a statement, condemned the Iranian attack on the two tankers, describing it as a flagrant violation of international law and a threat to the security and safety of maritime navigation.

The ministry reaffirmed Jordan's rejection and condemnation of the attack, stressing its absolute solidarity with the United Arab Emirates and its full support for all measures the UAE takes to protect its security, stability and resources.

The Egyptian Ministry of Foreign Affairs also strongly condemned the attack, describing it as a threat to the security and safety of maritime navigation and the free movement of vessels through one of the world's most important international waterways.

In a statement, the ministry affirmed Egypt's full solidarity with the UAE and stressed the need to halt all actions that could threaten the security and safety of international navigation or endanger vessels and civilian facilities.

It also reiterated the need to respect the rules of international law in a manner that contributes to de-escalation and preserves the security and stability of the region.

For its part, Syria condemned Iran's targeting of the two Emirati tankers, describing the attack as a flagrant violation of the rules of international law and the principles of freedom of maritime navigation.

In a statement, the Syrian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates expressed Damascus' solidarity with Abu Dhabi and its categorical rejection of attacks on commercial vessels and energy-related facilities, saying such acts constitute a dangerous escalation that could increase tensions and instability in the region.

The ministry called for respect for international law and freedom of navigation and for avoiding any action that could threaten the security of international waterways and the safe movement of trade and energy.

The Arab Parliament also strongly condemned what it described as Iran's blatant targeting of the two tankers, saying repeated attacks on commercial vessels and international waterways constitute a dangerous escalation, a threat to regional security and stability and global energy security, and a flagrant violation of international law and relevant UN Security Council resolutions.

Speaker of the Arab Parliament Mohammed bin Ahmed Al Yamahi, stressed in a statement that the security of international waterways, freedom of navigation and safe passage must not be subject to bargaining or used as a means of political pressure. He warned that continued attacks on commercial vessels in the Strait of Hormuz could threaten the safety of international navigation and have serious repercussions for global trade, energy security and market stability, extending well beyond the region.

Al Yamahi reiterated the Arab Parliament's full solidarity with the UAE and its support for the country in confronting any attacks targeting its security, sovereignty and interests. He also affirmed support for all legitimate measures taken by the UAE to protect its security and the safety of its citizens and property, stressing that the security and stability of the Arab Gulf states are an integral part of the security and stability of the Arab region.

The Arab Parliament Speaker stressed the need for full compliance with international law, respect for freedom of maritime navigation, and efforts to ensure safe and unconditional passage through the Strait of Hormuz.

He called on the international community and the UN Security Council to fulfill their responsibilities by ensuring an immediate halt to all escalatory actions threatening maritime security and the safety of commercial vessels and preventing practices that could undermine regional stability or endanger international economic and commercial interests.

He stressed that protecting vital maritime routes is a collective responsibility required by international law and considerations of international peace and security. (QNA)
