Lusaka, August 13 (QNA) - Voters in Zambia began casting their ballots this morning in the one-day presidential election, in which incumbent President Hakainde Hichilema is competing against 13 other candidates.
Around 8 million voters of the 22 million population registered to participate in the elections, which also includes the selection of members of parliament and local councils.
Hichilema, who took office in 2021, is seeking a second term. Meanwhile, Brian Mundubile from an opposition coalition is considered one of his main rivals.
The elections will be a test of the economic reforms implemented by the Zambian government at a time when the cost of living, food prices, unemployment and electricity supply are among the most important economic issues.
The results are expected to be announced on Monday, according to the Electoral Commission of Zambia. (QNA)
